Ballia, Uttar Pradesh: In a shocking revelation of alleged collusion between the police and liquor smugglers, a WhatsApp chat between the Gopal Nagar police station in-charge and local smugglers went viral, creating a major stir in Ballia. The incident has prompted immediate action from senior police authorities.
Details of the Viral Chat
The chat, which surfaced on social media, shows the station in-charge, Shubhendra Singh, discussing the sale and distribution of illegal liquor with smugglers targeting Bihar, where alcohol is completely prohibited. In the conversation, Singh is seen asking whether the shipment had been sold or was still held up. The smuggler replies that half of the stock has been sold and half remains.
The chat history spreading online triggered swift action from the ADG and District Superintendent of Police, who suspended Shubhendra Singh along with his entire team at Gopal Nagar police station.
Police Investigation Underway
According to SP Omveer Singh, the Bariya area officer was immediately sent to investigate the matter late at night. Based on the findings, the in-charge and his team were found culpable, leading to their suspension. Further investigation is ongoing to uncover the full extent of the alleged collusion.
Past Incidents Highlight Recurring Problem
Ballia has seen similar incidents in the past, including a case last year where 18 police personnel, including a station head, were suspended for illegal extortion. Transfers of senior officials followed, but the latest incident indicates continued collusion between certain police personnel and illegal liquor operators.
This development has once again raised serious concerns about law enforcement integrity and the functioning of police in border districts dealing with liquor smuggling.
