Patna: In a major boost to crime investigation and inter-state coordination, the Bihar Police has been integrated with the Cri-MAC portal (Crime Multi Agency Center), a nationwide digital platform developed by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB). Officials say the system is no less than a “magic wand” for police forces, as it enables real-time sharing of serious crime and criminal data across India.
With Bihar Police now directly connected to central law enforcement agencies and police departments of other states, tracking offenders and coordinating investigations has become significantly faster and more effective.
Real-Time Crime Alerts Across States
Senior police officials stated that once all agencies are connected through a single platform, information related to high-alert cases and serious crimes can be instantly shared among states. This will help in identifying criminals who frequently move across state borders to evade arrest.
The portal will also alert other states about criminal cases registered in Bihar, while Bihar Police will simultaneously receive updates about actions taken by agencies outside the state.
Cri-MAC Makes Criminal Escape Nearly Impossible
Officials believe the Cri-MAC system will strengthen the fight against inter-state criminal networks. Many gangs involved in human trafficking, liquor smuggling, and organised crime operate in Bihar while controlling their activities from other states. Through Cri-MAC, police can now receive updates round-the-clock and take timely action.
Facility to Send Messages and Access FIR Details
The portal allows law enforcement agencies to send bulk messages or emails to multiple units simultaneously. Police officers can also access and verify details of FIRs registered in different states, improving transparency and speeding up investigations.
Support for Zero FIR Under New Criminal Laws
With the introduction of Zero FIR provisions under the new legal framework, an FIR can now be registered at any police station regardless of where the crime occurred. Bihar Police has started sending Zero FIR details to the concerned police stations through the Cri-MAC portal, ensuring swift transfer of information.
Secure Network with Restricted Access
Officials confirmed that Cri-MAC operates on the highly secure CCTNS (Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems) infrastructure. Only authenticated and certified users can access the portal, and it cannot be used through public networks.
24×7 Information Sharing to Strengthen Policing
Cri-MAC ensures that crime-related intelligence is shared online 24 hours a day, seven days a week, enabling faster identification of wanted criminals. Data related to arrests, release from jail, and involvement in other criminal cases will now be continuously available to Bihar Police.
The integration is expected to significantly enhance Bihar’s ability to identify and arrest criminals who commit crimes in the state and then flee to other parts of the country.
