Kolkata: With the West Bengal Assembly elections approaching, political activity in the state is intensifying. During his three-day visit to Kolkata, Union Home Minister Amit Shah held meetings with several senior BJP leaders, and the reappearance of former West Bengal BJP president Dilip Ghosh in party meetings has come as a relief to senior members.
Ghosh, who has been away from the party’s core activities in recent months, was spotted attending a closed-door meeting along with State BJP president Samik Bhattacharya, Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, and Union Minister of State Sukanta Majumdar at a New Town hotel where Shah was staying. While refusing to comment on the meeting’s details, Ghosh indicated that he is ready to play an important role in the upcoming election campaign. “I came to listen to Amit Shah ji and will see what role the party decides for me,” he said.
According to sources, following his recent distancing from party affairs and a meeting with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in Digha, Ghosh is expected to be assigned a significant responsibility in the campaign. However, the absence of key leaders—including MLA Subrat Thakur, MLA Asim Sarkar, and Rajya Sabha member Anant Maharaj—during Wednesday’s BJP meeting has highlighted internal concerns within the party ahead of the 2026 polls.
