Wedding Was Just 11 Days Away, Tragedy Strikes: Young Man Killed After Bike Hits Stationary Dumper in Lucknow

Lucknow:What was meant to be the happiest phase of his life turned into an unimaginable tragedy. A young man, who was to get married in just 11 days, lost his life in a road accident while returning home after distributing his wedding invitation cards in Lucknow.

The incident occurred on Sunday evening near Anandi Water Park in the BBD area, when the motorcycle on which the victim was travelling rammed into a stationary dumper parked on the roadside, police said.

Returning After Giving Wedding Invitations

The deceased has been identified as Gopi Kumar, a resident of Shri Krishna Purwa under Gudamba police station limits. Gopi, the eldest son of Manoj Kumar, had his tilak ceremony scheduled for February 9, while the wedding procession (baraat) was to leave for Mahmudabad on February 11.

On Sunday, Gopi had gone to distribute wedding cards along with his cousin Govind Kumar, a resident of Mittai village in Barabanki. While returning around 7:30 pm, their motorcycle collided with a dumper standing near Nawaz Purwa, close to Anandi Water Park.

One Dead, One Critically Injured

Passersby alerted the police, who rushed both injured youths to Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences. Doctors declared Gopi Kumar dead on arrival, while Govind, who sustained serious injuries, was referred to the Trauma Centre, where his condition remains critical.

Govind is the son of Gopi’s maternal uncle, Deshraj. Family members said the two cousins shared a bond like real brothers, and Govind was deeply involved in the wedding preparations over the past several weeks.

Wedding Joy Turns Into Mourning

Gopi’s father Manoj Kumar works as a clothes presser, while his mother Manju is a homemaker. The family was busy preparing for its first wedding celebration, with relatives frequently visiting the house.

However, the atmosphere of joy turned into one of deep mourning when Gopi’s body, wrapped in a shroud after post-mortem, reached the village on Monday. His mother reportedly collapsed on hearing the news, while his father and younger brothers, Santosh and Akash, were inconsolable.

“The man who was to wear a wedding turban in 11 days returned home in a coffin,” said a grieving relative.

Dumper Seized, Driver Absconding

Inspector Ram Singh, Station House Officer of BBD police station, said the dumper involved in the accident has been seized, and efforts are underway to trace the driver, who fled the spot after the incident.

“Further legal action will be taken after the completion of last rites,” the officer added.

The tragic incident has once again raised concerns over unattended heavy vehicles parked on city roads, turning celebrations into irreversible loss.
