Chitrakoot: In a heart-wrenching incident that has shaken two families, a young couple who were set to get married next month ended their lives following a misunderstanding during a late-night phone call. The tragic story of 25-year-old Ankit Tiwari and 22-year-old Nandini Tiwari has left the entire region in shock.
Ankit was working in Jaipur, while Nandini was an intermediate student at a government college in Chitrakoot. Their wedding was fixed for February 17, and both families were busy with preparations. However, a moment of emotional turmoil turned their happiness into an irreversible tragedy.
A Video Meant to Scare Turned Fatal
According to the police, Ankit and Nandini were in a romantic relationship. Late Sunday night, around 1 am, the two were talking on the phone when an argument broke out over some issue. In a moment of distress and poor judgment, Ankit recorded a video of himself pretending to hang from a noose and sent it to Nandini, intending only to scare her.
Tragically, Nandini believed the video to be real. Shocked and overwhelmed, she took a dupatta, fashioned a noose, and ended her life. When Ankit later saw the video of Nandini hanging, he was devastated and, consumed by guilt and despair, also took his own life by hanging himself.
Two Families Devastated Overnight
The news of the double tragedy spread quickly, plunging both families into deep mourning. While Nandini’s last rites were performed in Chitrakoot, Ankit’s family left for Jaipur to bring back his body for the final rites.
The incident took place under the jurisdiction of the Bargarh police station area. Ankit was a resident of Khokhar village’s hamlet Gurdawan Ka Purwa, while Nandini belonged to Bargarh town.
Police Await Formal Complaint
Station House Officer Shiv Asare said that legal action will be taken as per the law if a formal complaint (tahrir) is received from either family. As of now, the police are treating the matter as a case of suicide based on preliminary findings.
A Tragic Lesson
What was meant to be a harmless attempt to frighten turned into a fatal chain of events, claiming two young lives and destroying the dreams of two families in a single night. The incident stands as a grim reminder of how impulsive actions, emotional distress and misunderstandings can lead to irreversible consequences.
The tragic end of Ankit and Nandini has left the community mourning a love story that was supposed to culminate in marriage, but instead ended in unimaginable sorrow.
