
Bulandshahr, February 23, 2026: A wedding procession in Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr district turned violent after an altercation erupted over a request to give way on the road. An Indian Air Force personnel and his father, a government school principal, were allegedly assaulted with sticks and iron rods by members of the procession.
The incident occurred in Amargarh village under the jurisdiction of Jahangirabad police station.
Dispute Over Honking Escalates into Assault
According to the complaint, Jitendra Singh, a headmaster at an upper primary school, was returning from an engagement ceremony with his son, Pratham Singh, who serves in the Indian Air Force.
While passing through the village, their car encountered a wedding procession led by Akash Verma. The procession, accompanied by loud music and traditional festivities, had occupied the roadway.
The family alleged that several members of the procession were intoxicated and carrying liquor bottles. When Pratham Singh honked to request passage, some of the revelers reportedly began hurling abuses. The situation quickly escalated into violence.
Brutal Attack Leaves Father and Son Injured
The complainant alleged that the accused attacked both father and son with sticks and iron rods. Due to severe injuries, both reportedly lost consciousness and collapsed on the road.
During the scuffle, their wristwatch and gold chain were also allegedly snatched.
Police reached the spot after being alerted and shifted the injured to a nearby hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment.
Police Action Underway
Jitendra Singh has filed a formal complaint naming six accused individuals. Police officials confirmed that one suspect has been taken into custody and further investigation is underway.
A video of the assault has surfaced on social media and is reportedly being examined as part of the investigation.
Rising Incidents During Wedding Season
With the ongoing wedding season, authorities have expressed concern over increasing incidents of unruly behavior during processions. Police have reiterated that strict action will be taken against anyone found disturbing public order or engaging in violence.
The incident has sparked outrage locally, raising questions about law and order and the need for stricter enforcement during large public gatherings.
