Wanted Constable Picked Up by Rajasthan Police in Lucknow, Abduction Rumours Trigger Panic

Lucknow: Panic gripped the Gomti Nagar area of Lucknow after a constable of the Special Security Force was allegedly taken away in a black Scorpio SUV, triggering widespread rumours of kidnapping. However, police investigation later revealed that the action was carried out by the Rajasthan Police, who arrested the constable in connection with a fraud case registered in 2002.

The arrested constable has been identified as Akhilesh Tripathi, a resident of Vikas Khand, Gomti Nagar, currently serving with the Special Security Force in Lucknow.

Taken Away in Black Scorpio

According to reports, the incident occurred on Sunday morning around 9:00 am, when Tripathi had gone to a Shiva temple with his two sons, Amol and Agam, to offer prayers. While returning, near Gwari village, a man reportedly stopped him and engaged him in conversation.

Soon after, three other men allegedly grabbed Tripathi and forcibly pushed him into a black Scorpio vehicle. His sons raised an alarm and tried to stop the vehicle, but the men threatened them and drove away.

Family Informs Police, Social Media Flooded With Abduction Claims

Tripathi’s wife Aradhana Tripathi immediately alerted the police after receiving information from her sons. Meanwhile, rumours of a kidnapping from Gomti Nagar quickly went viral on social media, causing fear and confusion among local residents.

Aradhana stated that the men claimed to be policemen. Later, she also received a phone call warning her to send Tripathi away, otherwise he would be taken.

Police Probe Reveals Rajasthan Police Operation

Lucknow police rushed to the spot and began investigation. CCTV footage from nearby areas did not confirm a kidnapping but indicated that the vehicle involved belonged to Rajasthan Police.

Further inquiry revealed that Akhilesh Tripathi was wanted in a fraud case registered at Gangapur police station in Rajasthan in 2002. At that time, he was reportedly working with a finance company. A non-bailable warrant (NBW) had been issued against him, and a reward of ₹25,000 was also declared for his arrest.

Local Police Calls It Protocol Violation

Gomti Nagar Inspector Brajesh Chandra Tiwari said Rajasthan Police violated standard protocol by conducting the arrest without informing local authorities. He stated that a notice would be sent to the Rajasthan Police and appropriate legal action would be initiated for not following due procedure.

The incident has raised serious concerns about coordination between police departments, as the lack of prior information led to unnecessary panic and abduction rumours in the city.
