Vrindavan Shelter Escape Five Girls Scale 35-Foot Wall Using Blankets and Dupattas; ‘Mission Escape’ Foiled by Betraying Boyfriend

Vrindavan, Mathura: In a shocking incident on the night of Republic Day, five girls escaped from a women’s shelter in Chaitanya Vihar, Vrindavan, defying the facility’s security. Using blankets and dupattas tied together to form a makeshift rope, the girls scaled a wall approximately 35 feet high. However, their daring “mission escape” was short-lived, as police soon recovered all five from different districts.

The Escape Plan

On the night of January 26, around 10 PM, the girls exploited the fatigue of the shelter staff after Republic Day events. They had previously stolen the key to the rooftop door under the pretext of assisting the staff. Once on the roof, they tied blankets and dupattas to create a rope and began descending. When the rope proved too short, they jumped from a height of about 15 feet, resulting in injuries to one girl from Delhi.

Betrayal by a Boyfriend

After fleeing, the girls from Agra and Delhi contacted their boyfriends from a lounge. Instead of helping, the Agra girl’s boyfriend, fearing imprisonment, informed police of her location through his lawyer. The Delhi girl’s boyfriend initially picked her up from Mathura railway station, and the pair fled to Noida. Police traced them using CCTV footage and arrested them in Noida.

Why They Ran Away

Police investigations revealed that the girls from Agra and Delhi were minors whose families had filed FIRs against their boyfriends for rape and abduction, fearing for their daughters’ safety. They were placed in the shelter for protection. The other three girls were escaping domestic abuse and family opposition; they helped the others during the escape but were later recovered from their homes.

Security Concerns

Mathura SSP Shlok Kumar stated that while CCTV cameras in the shelter’s lobby captured the girls, the jump point was not under camera surveillance. The warden, Gayatri Mishra, was informed on the morning of January 27, prompting an immediate police search. All five girls have since been returned to the shelter, and a review of the facility’s security measures is underway.
