Viral Video from Moradabad Triggers Probe After Hindu Student Allegedly Pressured to Wear Burqa

A video circulating on social media from Moradabad district of Uttar Pradesh has sparked widespread discussion and prompted an official investigation. The video, reportedly recorded on December 20, 2025, shows a group of Muslim girls allegedly persuading a Hindu girl—believed to be their classmate at a coaching centre—to wear a burqa while returning home.

According to information available, the incident took place in Sahukunj Colony under the Bilari area. In the video, the Hindu girl, dressed in regular clothes, appears hesitant and initially refuses when her friends ask her to wear a burqa. She is heard expressing concern about someone approaching, to which others respond that no one is coming. Moments later, under apparent peer pressure, the burqa is placed on her near a tree, an act that has now become the focus of public scrutiny.

Video Becomes Centre of Social Debate

After the video went viral, it quickly became a subject of intense social and communal debate. Several local residents have raised concerns over the functioning of coaching centres operating in residential areas without adequate oversight. Some residents have alleged that the incident could be part of a deliberate attempt to influence or pressure students, though no such claim has been officially confirmed.

Administration Orders Inquiry

Taking cognisance of the matter, the local administration has ordered a detailed investigation. SDM Bilari Vinay Kumar stated that residents of Sahukunj Colony approached the tehsil office with a formal complaint regarding the conduct of students associated with a coaching centre in the area.

“The viral video is being examined by the police. Based on the facts that emerge during the investigation, appropriate action will be taken,” the SDM said.

Police Working to Identify Students

Police officials have confirmed that efforts are underway to identify the girls seen in the video and to verify the circumstances under which it was recorded. Authorities have emphasized that conclusions will be drawn only after a thorough and impartial inquiry.

The administration has appealed to the public to avoid spreading rumours or drawing premature conclusions, stating that maintaining social harmony remains a priority while the investigation continues.
