Violence Erupts in Chomu, Jaipur: Stone-Pelting on Police, Tear Gas Used to Control Mob

Tension gripped the Chomu town of Jaipur district after a dispute escalated into violent clashes in the early hours of Friday. The situation turned volatile when a crowd allegedly resorted to stone-pelting on police personnel, forcing the authorities to fire tear gas shells to bring the situation under control. At least six police personnel were injured in the incident.

According to officials, the unrest broke out near a mosque in the bus stand area while the local administration was carrying out a drive to remove stones lying along the roadside. The stones, reportedly placed there for nearly 45 years, were obstructing traffic and causing frequent congestion in the area.

The administration began the removal process around 3 am, following prior consultations and a meeting held a day earlier between Chomu police officials and representatives of the local community, where consensus had reportedly been reached. The stones were removed peacefully without any resistance.

However, the situation deteriorated when railings were being installed at the cleared spot. At this stage, some anti-social elements allegedly objected, and the protest soon spiraled into violence. The mob began pelting stones at the police, prompting security forces to respond with tear gas to disperse the crowd.

Senior police officers rushed to the spot, and heavy police deployment was made to prevent further escalation. The entire area has been turned into a high-security zone, and additional forces have been stationed as a precautionary measure.

Police officials stated that the situation is now under control, though tension continues to prevail. An investigation is underway to identify those involved in the violence, and strict legal action will be taken against the perpetrators.

Authorities have appealed to residents to maintain peace and cooperate with the administration, emphasizing that the action was part of a traffic management initiative aimed at easing congestion and ensuring public safety.
