Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha has emerged in a strong and decisive role, earning widespread public support for his aggressive action against land mafias and corrupt officials within the Revenue and Land Reforms Department. His tough stance has not only rattled powerful vested interests but has also transformed him from a district-level leader into a statewide voice for land-related grievances.
The Revenue and Land Reforms Department has long been considered one of the most corruption-ridden wings of the administration, directly impacting farmers and rural families. From land receipts and corrections to mutation (dakhil-kharij), citizens have traditionally been forced to pay bribes at block offices to get even routine work done. This systemic exploitation, especially at the grassroots level, has caused immense hardship for ordinary people.
Recognizing this deep-rooted problem, Deputy CM Vijay Sinha has launched what many are calling an all-out “war” on corruption. His firm language and visible action against errant officials have struck a chord with the public. People across communities have openly praised him on social media, seeing in his approach a genuine attempt to free them from the long-standing grip of bribery and harassment.
Rising Public Support
The impact of Sinha’s actions is evident in the growing public sentiment. From Lakhisarai, where his campaign gained momentum, to Saharsa and other districts, his outreach programs and workshops have drawn attention. Slogans in his support are being raised, and many believe that if officials’ unions attempt resistance or strikes, public opinion will overwhelmingly stand against them.
Political observers note that Sinha’s image as a “man of democracy” who understands the power of the masses has helped him transcend district and caste boundaries. He is increasingly being viewed as a leader representing victims across the state, not just a particular region or community.
Direct Attack on Land Mafia
Land mafia activities—often involving the illegal occupation of land belonging to widows, poor farmers, and vulnerable families—have plagued Bihar for decades. These cases frequently involved forged documents and collusion with officials. Vijay Sinha’s open declaration against land mafias has therefore resonated strongly with the public.
In a recent social media post, the Deputy CM announced that, on the lines of action taken against mining and liquor mafias, district-wise lists of land mafias are now being prepared. Based on these lists, strict legal action will be initiated against those who have illegally occupied land using fake documents. The statement quickly went viral, reflecting the scale of public frustration and hope for justice.
Action Against Fake Documents and Complicit Officials
Sinha has also taken aim at the widespread use of forged documents, especially in areas with a history of zamindari systems. Even decades after the abolition of zamindari, fraudulent ownership claims continue to surface using fabricated records. The Deputy CM has made it clear that such practices will no longer be tolerated.
He has warned that individuals who grab land through fake documents, illegal mutations, or by bypassing rules will face strict legal consequences. Importantly, his action plan does not stop at criminals alone. Officials and employees found colluding with land mafias—whether revenue staff, circle officers, or others—will also be investigated and punished if found guilty.
A Defining Phase in Sinha’s Political Journey
By simultaneously targeting land mafias and corrupt officials, Vijay Kumar Sinha has significantly raised his political stature. Analysts see this phase as a defining chapter in his career, one that could reshape public trust in the land administration system if sustained effectively.
For millions of land-affected citizens in Bihar, his assertive approach has ignited fresh hope that justice may finally replace exploitation in one of the state’s most troubled departments.
