
Katihar, 15 December 2025: In a daring act of bravery, an RPF officer averted a potential disaster when the Kanchanjungha Express, traveling from Sealdah to Guwahati, came to an unexpected halt on a high railway bridge due to a technical fault.
The incident occurred on the Barsoi-Sudhani rail bridge in the Katihar rail division when the train’s power pipe came loose, causing the brakes to engage and the train to stop abruptly. Passengers were thrown into panic as the train stood immobilized on the bridge, raising serious safety concerns.
Responding swiftly, RPF Sub-Inspector Ajit Kumar, posted at Barsoi RPF, displayed exemplary courage. Without hesitation, he climbed onto the high bridge and went under the train to repair the loose power pipe, risking his life to ensure passenger safety. Railway staff and passengers supported him during this critical operation.
After a tense and painstaking repair, the train was safely restored to operational condition and continued its journey. The quick thinking, bravery, and dedication of Sub-Inspector Ajit Kumar and the railway team prevented what could have been a major accident.
