Victory Celebrations Dampened: Patna High Court Issues Notices to Four Newly-Elected Bihar MLAs

Patna, Bihar: The victory celebrations of several newly-elected MLAs in the Bihar Assembly 2025 elections have come under a cloud as the Patna High Court has issued notices challenging their election results. Out of the 243 newly-elected members, four MLAs now face legal scrutiny, with the court asking them to respond to the petitions.

MLAs Facing Legal Challenge
The election victories of MLAs from Tekari, Madhubani, Narpatganj, and Mohiuddinagar constituencies have been challenged in court. The petitions were filed through senior advocate Avneesh Kumar by the candidates who lost the elections, alleging irregularities in the voting process.

  • Tekari: RJD’s Ajay Kumar, who defeated former RALOMO minister Anil Kumar, won with 97,550 votes against Anil Kumar’s 95,492 votes. Anil Kumar has approached the court alleging improper conduct in the election.
  • Madhubani: RALOMO candidate Madhav Anand defeated RJD’s Sameer Mahaseth, securing 97,956 votes against Mahaseth’s 77,404 votes. RJD leader Ganesh Kumar has challenged Anand’s victory.
  • Narpatganj: BJP MLA Devanti Yadav, who received 1,20,557 votes against RJD’s Manish Yadav’s 95,204 votes, has also been served a notice questioning the validity of her win.
  • Mohiuddinagar: BJP’s Rajesh Singh, victorious with 89,208 votes against RJD’s Ejya Yadav’s 77,526 votes, now faces a legal challenge in court.

Implications
The High Court notices have put a temporary halt to the post-election celebrations and public felicitations for the affected MLAs. While the legal process unfolds, the petitions will determine whether these election victories stand or face further scrutiny.

This development highlights the judicial oversight in electoral matters and underscores the ongoing checks to ensure free and fair elections in Bihar.
