Lucknow: Samajwadi Party (SP) national president Akhilesh Yadav’s simplicity was on display once again on Friday when he was en route to a wrestling event in Lucknow. Near Sarojini Nagar, a vegetable vendor, Prema Sahu, stopped his convoy and offered him a basket of vegetables. In a gesture of gratitude and respect, Akhilesh accepted the gift and handed her ₹11,000.
Prema Sahu took the opportunity to share her troubles with the SP chief, explaining that local police often harass her. Other SP supporters and vendors had also gathered to meet Akhilesh and expressed their gratitude to him.
Event in Honour of Mulayam Singh Yadav
The wrestling event was organized on the eve of SP patron Mulayam Singh Yadav’s birth anniversary. Akhilesh Yadav was the chief guest at the grand gathering held at Dhude Pir Baba Mela Grounds, approximately 1 km from Banthra Police Station in Sarojini Nagar, near Gulab Kheda, Kurauni.
Wrestlers Thrill the Audience
Several wrestlers showcased their skills, entertaining the spectators with traditional maneuvers. Akhilesh Yadav praised the wrestlers and highlighted the deep-rooted connection between Sarojini Nagar and the SP legacy.
He said, “We are remembering our leader, Netaji, who himself was a wrestler. Wrestling is a part of our heritage, and I have grown up watching these events. Just as Netaji excelled in wrestling, he also advanced in politics, inspiring many to achieve success.”
