Highlights

  • Scindia family property dispute worth ₹40,000 crore
  • Former CM Vasundhara Raje’s total declared assets: ₹4.09 crore
  • Vasundhara owns a 3,530 sq. ft. plot in Jaipur

Overview of the Scindia Family Property Dispute

The legal battle over the Scindia family’s extensive assets began in 2010. Daughters of Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia filed a claim in court against their nephew, Jyotiraditya Scindia, arguing that they are entitled to an equal share of the ancestral property. Initially heard in the District Court, the case was later transferred to the Gwalior High Court in 2017 as a civil revision.

Signals of a Settlement Last Year

On 19 September 2025, reports indicated that all parties involved in the ₹40,000 crore dispute were open to an amicable settlement. The High Court bench directed Jyotiraditya Scindia and his three aunts to resolve the matter through mutual consent. The court had initially allowed 60 days for filing withdrawal applications and 90 days for completing the settlement. It also clarified that failure to complete the process within the stipulated time would lead to the re-filing of the petition.

Additional Time Granted

During recent proceedings, the aunts informed the court that certain related proceedings are pending in the Bombay High Court, preventing the completion of formalities within the original timeline. Consequently, the High Court extended the deadline by an additional 30 days to allow the parties to finalize the settlement.

Properties in Dispute

The dispute involves several high-value properties, including:

  • Jai Vilas Palace in Gwalior (approx. 12.4 lakh sq. ft., estimated at ₹10,000 crore)
  • Madhav Vilas Palace, Happy Vilas, and George Castle in Shivpuri
  • Kaliyadeh Palace in Ujjain
  • Gwalior House in Delhi
  • Plots on Rajpur Road and Scindia Villa
  • Padma Vilas Palace in Pune
  • Scindia Ghat in Varanasi
  • Vithoba Temple in Goa

The next court hearing is scheduled for 10 February 2026. Observers expect that the extended timeline may allow the family to resolve the dispute amicably.

Vasundhara Raje’s Declared Assets

Former Rajasthan CM Vasundhara Raje, who filed her nomination from the Jhalrapatan Assembly constituency in November 2018, declared her assets in the affidavit submitted with her nomination.

Between 2013 and 2018, her total assets grew by ₹43.31 lakh. In 2013, her declared assets were ₹3.66 crore, which increased to ₹4.09 crore by November 2018.

She owns:

  • 3.179 kg of gold and approximately 15 kg of silver jewelry
  • Cash of ₹1.29 lakh
  • A 3,530 sq. ft. plot in Indira Gandhi Nagar, Jaipur, valued at around ₹45 lakh

Interestingly, she currently does not own any private house or car.

This development marks a significant step towards resolving one of India’s most high-profile and long-standing family property disputes, with Vasundhara Raje taking a major step back from the legal battle.
