Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh: A shocking incident unfolded at a hotel in Varanasi where a brother and sister from Hyderabad were found dead in their room. Their bodies were discovered lying on the bed, and police recovered approximately ₹6.61 lakh, along with their Aadhaar cards, laptops, PAN cards, and passports.
The deceased have been identified as 46-year-old Ganesh Goud Gunlapalli and his 38-year-old sister, Dhanalakshmi Gunlapalli. They had checked into room number 2005 on February 8 and were scheduled to check out on February 10. When they did not leave the room by noon, hotel staff tried to contact them by phone. Receiving no response, they knocked on the door and alerted the police.
Scene Suggests Possible Drug Overdose
Upon arrival, police and a forensic team entered the room after documenting the scene on video. Investigators found foam coming from Dhanalakshmi’s mouth. Tablets, water bottles, and medicine strips were scattered across a table. Authorities suspect the siblings may have consumed a lethal dose of sleeping pills. Forensic examination of the substances is underway. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem.
Family and Address Details Under Investigation
DCP Kashi Zone, Gaurav Bansal, stated that the address on their Aadhaar cards was verified, but the family has not resided there since 2018. Police are currently attempting to trace relatives and gather more information about the siblings’ background.
Additional Discovery
Among their belongings, a death certificate was found indicating that another sister, Amala Devi, had passed away on January 28, 2026.
The case has sent shockwaves through the Cantt area of Varanasi, raising questions about the circumstances leading to the siblings’ deaths.
