Vande Bharat Sleeper Train Proposed Between Muzaffarpur and Delhi; Could Cut Travel Time by 5–6 Hours

Travelers between Muzaffarpur and New Delhi have reason to rejoice as a proposal for a Vande Bharat Sleeper Express on this route has been submitted to the Railway Board. The proposal was discussed in the recent meeting of the Zonal Railway Users’ Consultative Committee (ZRUCC), where officials highlighted that the new service could reduce travel time by 5–6 hours.

Growing Demand for Vande Bharat Sleeper
The demand for a Vande Bharat Sleeper train connecting Muzaffarpur with the national capital has been rising steadily from different regions of Bihar. At the East Central Railway (ECR) ZRUCC meeting held in Patna, the issue was formally discussed. Hariram Mishra, representative of Union Minister Rajbhushan Chaudhary, stated that the proposal for the high-speed train had long been awaited and has now been officially sent to the Railway Board. The meeting saw participation from six MPs, one MLA, and 38 other members, who discussed passenger amenities and new train operations in detail.

Time-Saving and Comfort
Currently, trains from Muzaffarpur to Delhi take approximately 18–20 hours. The introduction of a Vande Bharat Sleeper Express will not only make the journey more comfortable but also shorten travel time by 5–6 hours. Considering the large number of passengers traveling from Muzaffarpur and surrounding districts to Delhi, this service is expected to be a game-changer. Following the successful launch of India’s first sleeper Vande Bharat on the Howrah–Guwahati route, expectations have now risen for this major Bihar route.

Discussion on New Trains
During the ZRUCC meeting, several suggestions were made regarding railway infrastructure development and passenger needs. Hariram Mishra noted that Rail Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw had already indicated a positive approach toward connecting Muzaffarpur to Delhi via Vande Bharat. Additionally, the committee recommended running a new train between Muzaffarpur and Narkatiaganj after 8 PM. Members also appreciated the successful operations of premium trains like Amrit Bharat and Vande Bharat.

Longstanding Demand for Overnight Service
The call for a Vande Bharat Sleeper on the Muzaffarpur–Delhi route is not new. In December last year, Union Minister Rajbhushan Chaudhary emphasized the need for an overnight Vande Bharat train to the Rail Minister. Muzaffarpur, being a key commercial and educational hub in North Bihar, sees thousands of daily travelers to Delhi. Approval of this proposal by the Railway Board would mark a historic milestone for the region’s railway network.
