Vadodara Woman Employee Dies During Voter List SIR Process; Previous BLO Suicide Raises Concerns

Vadodara, Gujarat: In a tragic development during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list in Gujarat, a female assistant employee of a BLO collapsed while on duty and later died despite emergency treatment. The incident occurred in Vadodara, following the suicide of another BLO in Gir Somnath district just a day earlier.

Incident Details

The deceased, Ushaben Solanki, 40, was serving as an assistant to BLO Vaishaliben Patel at Pratap School in Sayajiganj, Vadodara. While checking voter list forms under the SIR process, she reportedly suffered dizziness due to prolonged standing under the scorching sun and mounting work pressure, causing her to collapse.

Colleagues immediately attempted first aid and rushed her to a nearby location in a rickshaw before she was transferred to Sayaji Hospital via 108 emergency ambulance. Despite the doctors’ best efforts, Ushaben could not be revived. Her sudden death has left co-workers and the local administration in shock, spreading grief and concern among SIR staff.

Previous Incident Adds Alarm

The incident follows the suicide of Arvind Vadher, a 40-year-old teacher and BLO from Gir Somnath, who reportedly took his life due to mental stress caused by the voter list revision work. In his suicide note, he stated, “I cannot continue SIR work anymore.”

The back-to-back tragedies have raised concerns about the high-pressure working conditions of BLOs and their assistants during the ongoing SIR process.

The Vadodara district administration has not yet issued an official statement regarding Ushaben Solanki’s death.
