Dehradun, Uttarakhand: A persistent cold wave has deepened the chill in the hilly regions of Uttarakhand, while the plains are expected to experience dry weather from November 7 to 12. Clear skies and bright sunshine in the plains will cause a slight rise in daytime temperatures, providing some warmth during the day despite the ongoing cold spell.
Weather Update
The Meteorological Centre reports that the mountain areas have been experiencing colder conditions due to recent snowfall and a prevailing cold wave. In the plains, early morning shallow fog has intensified the chill, although sunshine during the day will keep maximum temperatures around normal levels.
On Thursday, Dehradun recorded a maximum temperature of 29.8°C, an increase of 3°C from the previous day, while the minimum temperature dropped slightly to 12.6°C, about 1°C below normal. Hilly districts have also seen a 1°C fall in average temperatures, adding to the cold wave effect.
Preparations by Authorities
The Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Authority (USDMA) has initiated measures to deal with the cold and ongoing cold wave. Additional Chief Executive Officer (Administration) Anand Swaroop held meetings with district officials to ensure adequate preparedness.
Authorities have been instructed to:
- Set up shelters for the homeless and vulnerable populations.
- Provide bonfires, clean shelters, heaters, hot water rods, beds, and blankets at key locations.
- Ensure hygienic conditions in all shelters.
Citizens are advised to take precautions against the cold, especially early in the morning and during nighttime, and to make use of designated shelters if necessary.
