Uttarakhand Weather Today: Heavy Snowfall in Five Districts, Rain in Dehradun and Nainital

The Meteorological Department has forecast heavy snowfall in parts of Uttarakhand today, accompanied by rain in some areas. The continuous snowfall in the mountains over the past few days has further intensified the cold wave across the region.

According to Rashmi Khatri from Dehradun, rain and snowfall are expected in five districts today. The State Emergency Operations Centre has issued letters to district officials in these areas, warning of snowfall. A yellow alert has also been issued in certain regions for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning.

The weather turned gloomy early Sunday morning, with light drizzle and strong winds reported in several areas. In Dehradun, intermittent sunshine alternated with rainfall throughout the day. While showers in the plains provided temporary relief from rising temperatures, there was no significant drop in overall temperatures. Mountainous areas, however, experienced a notable fall in temperature due to snowfall. In Mussoorie, dense clouds covered the sky from morning, followed by rain in the afternoon and snow by late evening.

Snowfall Forecasted Areas
The maximum temperature recorded in Mussoorie on Sunday was 5°C. The rainfall and resulting drop in temperature intensified the cold, with residents seen warming themselves by fires at street corners. The Meteorological Centre has predicted snowfall today in higher-altitude areas (2800 meters and above) of Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Pithoragarh, and Bageshwar until 5 PM. District authorities have been advised to instruct residents in these areas to temporarily move to lower altitudes and remain extra vigilant.

Rain in Dehradun and Nainital
Light rain and occasional snowfall at higher altitudes are also expected in Dehradun and Nainital, while the weather in other districts of the state is expected to remain dry.
