Uttarakhand Weather Today: Clouds and Rain Expected in Six Districts, Yellow Alert for Lightning

Weather conditions in Uttarakhand are set to turn cloudy today, with rain and snowfall expected in six districts. Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar, Nainital, and Pithoragarh are likely to experience snowfall on higher altitudes and rainfall in lower regions, while other districts will remain largely dry.

Forecast Details
The Meteorological Centre has warned of light rain and snowfall in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar, and Pithoragarh. Areas above 2,800 meters may see significant snowfall. Other districts including Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, Almora, Champawat, and Nainital may witness light rainfall. Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar are expected to experience dense fog, which has been increasing since 4 February.

A yellow alert has been issued for thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds in Dehradun, Pauri, and Nainital, while other hill districts may also witness lightning activity.

Tourism and Sports Update
Following recent snowfall, skiers in Auli are gearing up for the National Winter Games, scheduled from 12 to 16 February 2026, sparking excitement among athletes nationwide.

Kedarnath Update
At Kedarnath, snow accumulation has reached three feet, and temperatures hover around -16°C. Police and ITBP personnel are working round-the-clock to secure the temple, assisted by five local dogs that accompany them on patrols. The authorities ensure the animals are well-fed, sheltered, and protected from the extreme cold while they continue to help maintain security.

This combination of snowfall, rain, and extreme cold underscores the challenges for residents and security personnel, as well as the importance of preparedness during harsh winter conditions.
