Uttarakhand Weather Alert: Clouds and Strong Winds from Dehradun to Almora; IMD Issues Heavy Rain Warning for Seven Districts

Dehradun: The weather in Uttarakhand is changing again after recent rains and snowfall brought relief to the hills. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for heavy rainfall and strong winds across the state, including in Dehradun and its surrounding hilly areas, as a new western disturbance becomes active. Snowfall is also expected in the higher reaches of Dehradun.

IMD Warnings Across Districts
The IMD has cautioned residents in Dehradun, Haridwar, Pauri, Tehri, Champawat, Nainital, Almora, and Udham Singh Nagar about the possibility of hailstorms and lightning in some areas today. The changing weather has prompted the district administration in Dehradun to declare a holiday for schools and Anganwadi centers. Heavy rains with thunderstorms and lightning are likely in Dehradun, while hilly areas may experience intense to very intense rainfall accompanied by moderate snowfall.

Alerts for Tehri and Other Districts
Warnings have also been issued for Champawat, Haridwar, Nainital, Almora, Pauri, Tehri, and Udham Singh Nagar from Tuesday through Wednesday, including risks of hailstorms, lightning, and gusty winds with speeds of 40–50 km/h.

Yellow Alerts in Other Districts
The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar, and Pithoragarh, warning of isolated thunderstorms and strong winds at speeds of 30–40 km/h.

Weather Outlook for January 28
The state is expected to continue experiencing unsettled weather on January 28. Yellow alerts have been issued for Nainital, Champawat, and Udham Singh Nagar, with forecasts of thunderstorms and winds of 40–50 km/h. While the rains may pose challenges, they are expected to benefit farmers struggling with water scarcity in the Rabi season, especially in the plains and hilly areas.
