Dehradun: Uttarakhand is facing intense cold as a persistent cold wave sends shivers across both the hilly and plains regions. While dry winter chills are causing discomfort, children and the elderly are particularly vulnerable to infections. Despite the temperature difference between day and night, the daytime chill has also begun to bite.
According to the Meteorological Department, the state will experience mainly dry weather over the next few days. Frost in the hilly regions has intensified the cold, while in the plains, even sunny spells cannot ward off the chilly feel.
In Dehradun, Friday’s weather remained mostly clear, although occasional clouds partially covered the sun. The maximum temperature was recorded at 27°C and the minimum at 11°C, with similar temperatures expected today, dipping to 10°C at night.
Due to the absence of monsoon rains, the state is experiencing dry cold, which is impacting public health. In the hills, frost and biting winds are causing discomfort, while in the plains, children are increasingly affected by the dry chill.
Medical Advisory
Doctors have issued warnings for children and the elderly, advising precautions against the worsening cold. With early mornings and evenings growing colder and cold winds blowing, cases of viral infections and flu are on the rise.
Health experts recommend that vulnerable individuals avoid exposure to cold winds, refrain from consuming cold foods, and maintain proper nutrition. Fresh fruits rich in Vitamin C and a balanced diet can help boost immunity during these months.
Senior Medical Officer Dr. S.K. Jha emphasized, “November and December are peak months for viral infections. Children should wear warm clothing, and school-going kids must have gloves and hats. Avoid drinking cold water to reduce the risk of illness.”
The state administration and medical authorities continue to urge residents to take precautionary measures as the cold wave persists, particularly in frost-prone hilly areas and vulnerable lowland communities.
