By Abhay Singh Rathore, Hardoi: In a bizarre and shocking incident from Uttar Pradesh’s Hardoi district, a 28-year-old man bit off the hood of a deadly cobra after being bitten by it — and lived to tell the tale. The cobra died instantly, while the man miraculously recovered and was discharged from the hospital within a day.
According to reports, Punit, a resident of Tadiyawan police station area, was working in his paddy field on November 4 when a black cobra suddenly coiled around his leg and bit him. Instead of panicking, Punit reacted in anger — he grabbed the venomous snake and bit its hood with his teeth, killing it on the spot.
Soon after, Punit rushed home and informed his family, who immediately took him to Hardoi Medical College. Doctors confirmed snakebite marks on his leg and kept him under observation overnight. To everyone’s surprise, his condition remained stable, and he was discharged the next morning.
Emergency Medical Officer Dr. Sher Singh stated that Punit’s action was extremely dangerous. “If the venom had entered his mouth or bloodstream, it could have been fatal. People should never attempt such acts,” he cautioned.
Punit, however, appeared unfazed. “The cobra bit me while I was working in the field. Out of anger, I bit its hood and killed it. I was treated at the hospital, and now I feel perfectly fine,” he said with calm defiance.
Doctors have described his survival as a medical miracle, while villagers are calling it an extraordinary act of courage and luck.
