Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh: On the heels of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process, Uttar Pradesh is set to release its draft voter list today, covering 12.55 crore voters. Following this, a significant revision will take place with 2.89 crore voters’ names being removed due to reasons like transfer, absenteeism, or death. With the release of the draft voter list, the Election Commission has issued clear guidelines for those whose names might be missing.
In preparation for the release, the state’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Navdeep Ridwa confirmed the final steps of the process on Monday. Starting today, voters can file claims and objections if they find their names missing from the list.
Steps to Check Your Name in the Draft Voter List
If you are unsure whether your name appears in the list, you can visit the official website of the Election Commission of India at www.eci.gov.in. Click on the “Search Your Name in E-Roll” tab, which will redirect you to https://electoralsearch.eci.gov.in/. Through this portal, you can search for your name by entering your EPIC (Electors Photo Identity Card) number, or if you don’t remember it, by filling in details like your name, your relative’s name, date of birth, age, gender, district, and assembly constituency. Alternatively, if your mobile number is registered, you can search using that as well.
What to Do if Your Name Is Missing
If your name is not listed in the draft voter list, don’t panic. You can follow these steps to get it added:
- Fill out Form-6 and Annexure-IV
- Submit the forms at your local BLO (Booth Level Officer) office. Alternatively, you can submit them online via the E-Voting Portal or the E-NET app.
- Attend the Hearing: You will need to attend a hearing, during which you must provide reasons why your name was missing from the list and prove your eligibility to vote as a citizen.
Required Documents for Name Addition
To support your claim, you will need to provide one of the following documents:
- Identity card of state or central government employees
- Passport
- Driver’s license
- PAN card
- Identity card from a government or semi-government office
- Student ID card from an educational institution
- Utility bills (electricity, water, or telephone—landline/mobile)
- Bank/Post office passbook (with address)
- Ration card
- Rent agreement
- Housing allotment letter issued by a government department
- Gas connection receipt or book
Potential Political Implications of the SIR Process
The SIR process has led to the removal of several voters’ names from the list, which may alter the political equations in various districts. Following the publication of the draft voter list, political parties, including the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and others, are expected to make efforts to ensure their supporters’ names are re-added. After a month of scrutiny, the true political picture will likely emerge, as parties push to secure votes through this crucial voter list revision.
Key Dates:
- 11 January: Draft voter list will be read aloud at all polling booths.
- 6 February: Last date to file claims and objections.
- 27 February: Final resolution of claims and objections.
- 6 March: Final voter list publication.
