The young woman had been in a relationship with her lover for four years. When her family arranged her marriage elsewhere, she decided to elope. Before leaving, she staged a dramatic scene by placing a snake skin, bangles, bindis, and jewelry on her bed. Later, the couple legally tied the knot through a court marriage in Kanpur. The woman also recorded a video claiming that if anything happened to her husband or in-laws, her family would be held responsible.

“I did not place the snake skin or other items on the bed. You can ask my family. I used to sleep with a snake, but it wasn’t this skin. I don’t know where the skin in the photos came from. Once, my father had removed the snake skin from beside me while I was sleeping.”
