UP Weather Update: Early Morning Drizzle in Lucknow, Rain and Hailstorm Alert for Several Districts

Lucknow:
Weather conditions have changed across Uttar Pradesh, with rain, drizzle, and hailstorm activity affecting several districts and bringing a sharp increase in cold conditions. Light rain and hail were reported on Tuesday in Lucknow, Noida, Ghaziabad, and several parts of Purvanchal, leading to a noticeable drop in temperatures. Early Wednesday morning, Lucknow witnessed intermittent drizzle, while cloudy skies and rainfall continued in parts of the National Capital Region.

According to the Meteorological Department, rain and hailstorms are likely in many districts of the state today (Wednesday), accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorm activity. The recent spell of rain and overcast skies has intensified the winter chill across the region.

Rainfall Brings Temperature Drop in Lucknow

Lucknow experienced rapidly changing weather conditions on Tuesday. As night fell, light drizzle altered the city’s weather pattern completely. The maximum temperature during the day was recorded at 24.5°C, while the minimum temperature remained nearly unchanged at 11.2°C. Continuous cloud cover and early morning drizzle on Wednesday further lowered the perceived temperature, increasing cold discomfort among residents.

Senior scientist Atul Kumar Singh from the Amausi-based Meteorological Centre said that the city will remain cloudy on Wednesday, with light to moderate rainfall expected. The department has also issued a warning for thunderstorms accompanied by winds blowing at speeds of 30–40 km per hour. From Thursday onwards, morning fog and a further drop in night temperatures are likely.

Rain and Hailstorm in Ghaziabad

In Ghaziabad and surrounding areas, weather conditions deteriorated sharply on Tuesday. The sky remained overcast since morning, followed by rainfall with thunder in several localities by afternoon. Hailstorms were reported in areas such as Indirapuram and Rajnagar Extension, intensifying the cold spell.

Cold winds blowing at speeds of nearly 30 km per hour further worsened conditions, doubling the chill factor. On Tuesday, Ghaziabad recorded a maximum temperature of 18°C and a minimum of 8°C.

Cold Wave Likely in Coming Days

Meteorological officials attributed the sudden weather change to an active western disturbance over the Himalayan region, whose impact is being felt across the plains. Due to rainfall and cold winds, daytime temperatures have dropped significantly. Experts warn that cold wave conditions may prevail over the next one to two days, especially during night and early morning hours.

Residents have been advised to wear warm clothing, avoid unnecessary outdoor exposure, and take special care of children and the elderly.

Rain and Hail in Noida

Noida also experienced rainfall early Tuesday morning, which further intensified the cold. Several parts of the city reported heavy rain accompanied by hail, forcing people to remain indoors. Persistent rainfall and icy winds led to a noticeable fall in temperatures and reduced visibility on roads during morning hours.

Yellow Alert Issued for February 1

The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for rainfall on February 1. On Tuesday, Noida recorded a minimum temperature of 8°C and a maximum of 16.9°C. Officials have warned that cloudy skies and intermittent rain may continue over the next few days, potentially worsening cold conditions across the state.

With winter tightening its grip, authorities have urged citizens—especially school-going children, office commuters, and senior citizens—to take necessary precautions against cold-related illnesses.
