UP Weather Today, February 6: Cold Wave Intensifies After Western Disturbance, Minimum Temperatures Drop Amid Strong Winds

Lucknow: Following the passage of a Western Disturbance, Uttar Pradesh is experiencing a sharp drop in temperatures, intensifying the cold wave. Strong winds have further increased the feeling of chill across the state.

According to the Meteorological Department, the weather in Uttar Pradesh has been fluctuating over the past few days. Clear skies, returning fog, and gusty winds have caused temperatures to vary, and such changes are expected to continue throughout February. This has resulted in cold mornings and evenings accompanied by a humid, uncomfortable sensation.

After the Western Disturbance moved past Gujarat, the plains of Uttar Pradesh, including Lucknow, witnessed a change in wind direction. Cold air flowing from the hills has lowered minimum temperatures and led to dense fog in many areas. The Meteorological Department reports that the western plains are now experiencing westerly winds, and residents have been warned of strong winds over the next 48 hours. In Lucknow, night temperatures dropped to 9.5°C while the maximum reached around 23.9°C.

Today, the capital city is expected to see temperatures ranging between 11°C and 24°C, with humidity at 35% and atmospheric pressure at 1019 hPa. Although the skies remain clear, air quality is a concern, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) expected to stay above 156, categorizing it as “poor.” PM2.5 levels reached 156 and PM10 80. Citizens are advised to take necessary precautions due to smog and particulate matter.

Agra is also witnessing cold weather, creating a serene “marble-like” environment. The city’s temperatures are forecasted to be between 11°C and 25°C, with an AQI potentially exceeding 194, placing it in the poor category. PM2.5 and PM10 levels are 194 and 166, respectively.

In Noida and Ghaziabad, conditions are more concerning. Noida is expected to see temperatures from 10°C to 25°C, with 27% humidity and pressure at 1020 hPa. The AQI may exceed 218, categorized as “unhealthy.” Ghaziabad is also expected to face poor air quality.

Weather experts note that the effects of the Western Disturbance—temperature fluctuations and strong winds—may persist for the next few days. Cold will be felt more in the mornings and nights, while the day may see occasional sunshine. Due to poor air quality, people with respiratory issues, children, and the elderly are advised to take extra precautions.
