UP Police Scandal: Inspector, 11 SIs Suspended Over Fake Investigation Reports

Unnao / Gonda: A shocking case of police malpractice has come to light in Uttar Pradesh, where officials were allegedly filing fake investigation reports to fraudulently claim insurance money. Following a complaint by an insurance company, one inspector and 11 sub-inspectors (SIs) have been suspended.

The misconduct was uncovered across three districts of Purvanchal—Bahraich, Gonda, and Shravasti—where investigations into road accidents were found to be riddled with irregularities. Officers not only misrepresented vehicles and drivers in accident reports but also manipulated the facts of the incidents to extract compensation from insurance companies.

Out of the 15 police personnel involved, an inspector and 11 SIs have been suspended, while departmental action is underway against three other SIs.

The fraud came to light after Rajendra Pratap Singh, an official of a private insurance company, lodged a complaint with IG Devi Patan Range Amit Pathak. Singh reported that in multiple road accident cases, the real vehicles were hidden, and fake vehicles were recorded in reports, causing financial loss to insurance companies and weakening the claims of genuine victims. Following IG Pathak’s orders, investigations confirmed serious irregularities in 13 cases.

Method of the Fraud
Investigations revealed that the vehicles involved in actual accidents were replaced with fictitious vehicles and drivers in reports. People present at accident sites were falsely recorded as being in Mumbai on the day of the accident. Similarly, the collision of unknown vehicles was falsely attributed to other vehicles to unlawfully claim insurance payouts. These manipulations caused insurance companies to suffer losses worth crores of rupees, while victims were often denied rightful compensation.

Officials Suspended

  • Shravasti: Inspector Yogesh Singh; SI Gurusen Singh
  • Bahraich: SIs Arun Kumar Pandey, Sanjeev Kumar Dwivedi, Ashok Kumar Jaiswal, Tej Narayan Yadav, Rakesh Kumar, Rajeshwar Singh, Rupanarayan Gaur, Vijay Yadav, Divakar Tiwari, Mehtab Alam
  • Gonda: SIs Sheshnath Pandey, Shashank Maurya, Shailesh Kumar Tripathi, Premchandra

IG Amit Pathak emphasized that corruption, irregularities, or negligence in investigations will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
