Kanpur: Panic spread in Kanpur’s Panki Industrial Area on Wednesday morning after four young men were found dead inside a closed room of an oil seeds factory. The shocking discovery was made when the factory room remained shut unusually long, prompting security staff to break open the door.
Room Found Locked from Inside
The incident occurred at D-58, Site No. 2, Panki Industrial Area, where four labourers were staying in a factory room. When the door didn’t open even after repeated knocks, the security guard and other workers forced it open. Inside, the four young men were found lying unconscious.
Upon checking, it was confirmed that all four had already died. The factory staff immediately informed the police and the owners.
Coal Brazier Found Burning in the Room
According to the police, the room was locked from inside and a coal brazier (angithi) was found burning in a metal tray. Investigators suspect the men lit the brazier at night to protect themselves from the cold, leading to carbon monoxide poisoning and suffocation.
Police and Forensic Team Begin Investigation
The bodies have been taken into custody for post-mortem. A forensic team has also been called to determine the exact cause of death.
Police officials said preliminary evidence points to accidental death due to suffocation, but further investigation has been launched to rule out any other angle.
