Aligarh, 18 November 2025: Uttar Pradesh Minister Raghuraj Singh has stirred nationwide controversy with statements linking educated Muslims to terrorism. Addressing the media on Tuesday, the BJP leader claimed that “the more educated a Muslim is, the bigger terrorist they can become.” He called for the immediate closure of madrasas and mosques and demanded a probe into Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), alleging that the institution has become a breeding ground for terrorists.
Targeting Religious Institutions and Leaders
The minister referred to recent incidents like the Delhi blast, criticizing clerics and Islamic leaders for allegedly failing to condemn terrorism. He stated that this silence indicates complicity, asserting that educated Muslims pose a greater threat.
Citing Osama bin Laden
Singh mentioned Osama bin Laden, highlighting that he had formal education in engineering (B.Tech/M.Tech) yet carried out attacks in the United States, labeling such individuals as “descendants of giants” involved in terrorism.
Aligarh Muslim University Under Scrutiny
He further demanded an investigation into AMU, claiming that it has produced high-profile terrorists, including figures akin to Burhan Wani. He controversially suggested that minority educational institutions should not exist in India and called for the closure of mosques and madrasas nationwide.
International Comments
Singh also criticized New York Mayor Joharan Mamdani, alleging that he is promoting religious conversions, using this as an example to reinforce his statements on the perceived threats from certain religious communities.
His remarks have provoked widespread debate across political and social platforms, raising concerns about communal harmony and freedom of educational and religious institutions in India.
