Lucknow: The Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government has announced a major decision aimed at providing relief to married women. Under new guidelines, the process of transferring a woman’s ration unit from her parental ration card to her marital household’s ration card has been significantly simplified.
Streamlined Process for Married Women
Previously, married women often faced delays and complications when adding their names to their in-laws’ ration cards, as their parental ration unit had to be canceled first. With the new directive from the Food and Logistics Department, women no longer need to wait or face administrative hurdles for this transfer.
Official Communication
Ranveer Prasad, Principal Secretary of the Food Department, issued instructions to all District Magistrates and District Supply Officers, noting that numerous applications for ration unit transfers remain pending. The department has been tasked with simplifying and expediting the process, whether within the same district or across districts.
Online Application Made Easy
According to the new guidelines, married women can submit an online application providing:
- Parental ration card number and shopkeeper’s name
- In-laws’ ration card number and shopkeeper’s name
- Aadhaar number
The Food Department will directly transfer the unit from the parental ration card to the in-laws’ ration card.
New Provisions
If the marital household does not yet have a ration card but qualifies for one under the family ration card eligibility criteria, a new card will be created, and the woman’s unit will be transferred from her parental card. If the marital household does not meet the eligibility criteria, the unit will be canceled from the parental ration card.
The move is expected to ease administrative burdens and provide married women timely access to ration benefits in their new households.
