
The Uttar Pradesh government has given a major New Year boost to the state police leadership by promoting 50 Indian Police Service (IPS) officers across different ranks. The promotion orders were issued by the Home Department after receiving approval from Governor Anandiben Patel.
Among the promoted officers, three senior IPS officers of the 2001 batch—Tarun Gaba, Ashutosh Kumar, and Praveen Kumar—have been elevated from Inspector General (IG) to the rank of Additional Director General (ADG).
Six Officers Promoted to IG
As part of the promotion exercise, six IPS officers of the 2008 batch have been promoted from Deputy Inspector General (DIG) to Inspector General (IG). These officers are:
- Kiran S
- Anand Sureshrao Kulkarni
- N. Kolanchi
- Amit Verma
- Rajeev Malhotra
- Dr. Akhilesh Kumar Nigam
Thirteen Officers Elevated to DIG
The government has also promoted 13 IPS officers of the 2012 batch to the rank of DIG. Those promoted include:
- Vijay Dhull
- Ghule Sushil Chandrabhan
- Ashish Tiwari
- Sachindra Patel
- Vipin Tada
- Pratap Gopendra Yadav
- Abhishek Yadav
- Sankalp Sharma
- Somen Verma
In addition, Yamuna Prasad, Santosh Kumar Mishra, Hemraj Meena, and Rajkaran Naiyyar, also from the 2012 batch, have been promoted from Superintendent of Police (SP) to DIG.
Selection Grade for 28 IPS Officers
A total of 28 IPS officers from the 2013 batch have been granted the Selection Grade, marking another significant career milestone. Prominent names include:
- Anurag Arya
- Dr. Abhishek Mahajan
- Ashish Srivastava
- Khyati Garg
- Dr. Gaurav Grover
- Akash Tomar
- Dr. Satish Kumar
- Yashveer Singh
- Siddharth Shankar Meena
- Ganesh Prasad Saha
- Kunwar Anupam Singh
Other officers receiving the Selection Grade include Dr. Anil Kumar Pandey, Dr. Devesh Kumar Pandey, Sushil Kumar Shukla, Narendra Kumar Singh, Nityanand Rai, Shyam Narayan Singh, among others.
Additionally, Dr. Brajesh Kumar Singh, Kamlesh Kumar Dixit, Uday Shankar Singh, Rajesh Dwivedi, Rajesh Kumar Srivastava, Jai Prakash Singh, Dinesh Tripathi, Tribhuvan Singh, Ramsevak Gautam, and Ajit Kumar Sinha have also been promoted.
Strengthening Police Leadership
Officials said the large-scale promotion drive is aimed at strengthening police administration and boosting morale within the force. The promotion orders were formally issued on Wednesday, marking one of the biggest promotion exercises in recent years within the Uttar Pradesh police cadre.
The move is being seen as a significant administrative step by the Yogi Adityanath government at the start of the New Year.
