Meerut: The Yogi Adityanath government presented the Uttar Pradesh Budget 2026-27 in the Assembly on Wednesday, unveiling a record ₹9.12 lakh crore budget with special emphasis on Western Uttar Pradesh. The budget highlights several initiatives for key cities including Meerut, Moradabad, Mathura-Vrindavan, and Bareilly, with a focus on infrastructure, education, and women’s empowerment.

Development in Mathura-Vrindavan, Meerut, and Kanpur

The budget allocates ₹700 crore for new projects in the Mathura-Vrindavan, Meerut, and Kanpur Development Authority areas, aimed at improving basic infrastructure and urban amenities. Religious and culturally significant cities like Mathura-Vrindavan have received special attention. The budget also strengthens higher education funding, increasing allocations by approximately 7% compared to last year.

Guru Jambheshwar University in Moradabad

Moradabad will receive ₹50 crore for the establishment of Guru Jambheshwar University, which is currently operating from a polytechnic college building. With this allocation, the university can now construct its own campus, with land already selected by district authorities. Construction has already begun, and the state has set a completion deadline of July 2026.

Major Dhyan Chand Sports University, Meerut

The budget also highlights the under-construction Major Dhyan Chand Sports University in Salawa, Meerut, being developed on approximately 100 acres. The estimated budget for this project is ₹700 crore. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced that admissions will commence from April 2026.

Initiatives in Bareilly

Bareilly will benefit from multiple new schemes:

  • Milk Producers Company: Under the Women Empowerment Scheme, a milk producers’ company has been established to streamline local milk collection and marketing, ensuring fair prices for dairy farmers and creating employment for rural women.
  • Emergency and Trauma Center: A new facility will be established at Bareilly District Hospital.
  • New Girls’ Hostels: Funding has been allocated for constructing hostels to support female students.
  • Delhi-Varanasi High-Speed Rail Corridor: Bareilly will gain strategic benefits from this rail project.
  • Working Women’s Hostel & Safety Projects: A hostel for working women will be developed, alongside expansion of the Safe City project, which includes enhanced CCTV coverage at major intersections and deployment of Anti-Romeo Squads.

The budget underscores the state government’s commitment to inclusive development, education, infrastructure, and women’s safety, particularly in Western Uttar Pradesh, ensuring that both urban and rural communities benefit from upcoming initiatives.
