Amitesh Singh, Ghazipur: In a remarkable display of dedication and duty, a Booth Level Officer (BLO) in Uttar Pradesh returned to his official responsibilities immediately after performing the last rites of his mother. His decision to prioritize the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process over personal grief has drawn widespread appreciation in the region.
Laldhar Sahay, a teacher posted at Rafeeqpur Primary School under Baheriabad police station limits and BLO of Booth No. 222 in Saidpur Assembly constituency, lost his elderly mother on 22 November after a prolonged illness. She lived in their native village with his elder brother, Lalchand.
Upon receiving the news, Sahay rushed to the village, and on 23 November, he and his brother performed the cremation rituals. However, instead of staying back with his grieving family, he returned the same day to resume his election duties.
Thirteen-Day Rituals Postponed for Election Duty
His mother’s “terahvi” (final ritual ceremony) was scheduled for 5 December. But due to the intense workload of the SIR revision exercise, Sahay found himself torn between duty and family obligations. After discussing with his family, he postponed the ceremony to 13 December, putting official responsibilities first.
Locals Moved by His Commitment
Speaking about his decision, Sahay said:
“Elections are the grand festival of democracy. If officials like us do not perform our duties sincerely and on time, it directly affects the rights of the people. I have bid farewell to my mother; now fulfilling my duty is the greatest dharma.”
His dedication has deeply moved locals and fellow officials. Many have hailed his commitment as an inspiring example for all those associated with election-related work.
