Unnao, Uttar Pradesh: The victim of the infamous Makhi rape case in Unnao has approached the Delhi High Court seeking a harsher sentence for former BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar in connection with her father’s custodial death. The Chief Justice has scheduled the matter for hearing before a bench on February 19.
Sengar had previously been sentenced to 10 years in prison by a lower court in the custodial death case and fined ₹10 lakh. The court had noted that no leniency could be shown in the killing of the family’s sole earning member, awarding him the maximum sentence for culpable homicide not amounting to murder. Sengar’s plea for bail in the case was rejected by the Delhi High Court, after which he approached the Supreme Court.
Serving Life Term in Rape Case
Kuldeep Singh Sengar is already serving a life sentence for the rape of the Unnao victim, who was a minor at the time of the crime. The incident occurred on June 4, 2017, when the girl was allegedly lured to Sengar’s house under the pretext of a job, where the assault took place. The victim’s father died in police custody on April 3, 2018, while attending a court hearing for the case.
The victim has now urged the court to impose a stricter punishment on Sengar, emphasizing the gravity of his actions and their devastating impact on her family.
