Bhopal/Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh: The Madhya Pradesh government is set to transform Ujjain into a major wildlife tourism hub with the development of a 500-hectare Jungle Zoo Safari, modeled on Reliance’s renowned Vantara concept. The project, announced by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, will offer visitors an immersive experience of 11 forests from across the globe and host over 300 native and exotic species. Construction is slated to begin in 2026, further complementing Ujjain’s status as a leading religious tourism destination.
A New Era for Wildlife Tourism
In a government meeting on Friday, CM Mohan Yadav instructed the project’s consultant firm to design a “Jungle Zoo Safari” in Ujjain, based on the Vantara model. Vantara combines Indian zoos and wildlife rescue facilities with experiences of forests from around the world. Madhya Pradesh is focusing on wildlife tourism as a key component of its broader tourism promotion strategy, with similar centers planned in Jabalpur.
Project Details: 500 Hectares of Adventure
The safari will span 500 hectares, including the existing 50-hectare Eco-Tourism Park in Ujjain. CM Yadav emphasized the goal of creating a destination where diverse forests and wildlife could be displayed in unique ways. Both daytime and nighttime visits will be possible, showcasing native and exotic species. The first phase of construction is expected to start in 2026 and be completed as quickly as possible.
Global Forests and Diverse Species
Consultants presented a plan featuring 11 forests, including Indian and international ecosystems. The project will be completed in six phases, with the first phase expected to finish by the end of 2027. Visitors will explore the safari on foot, by horse-drawn carriage, safari vehicle, or service vehicle using invisible barriers to ensure safety. About 300 species will inhabit the safari, with 75% native and 25% exotic. A dedicated rescue center will also be part of the facility, making it the world’s first “real Jungle Zoo Safari” experience.
This ambitious initiative aims to position Ujjain as a premier wildlife and adventure tourism destination, blending nature, conservation, and global wildlife experiences under one roof.
