Ujjain, Feb 7, 2026: In a decisive action against illegal encroachments, the Ujjain Municipal Corporation cleared unauthorized structures near the historic Gabshah Baba Five-Peer Dargah and Mazaar, located in the Nazrali Mill compound on Agar Road. Despite repeated notices to the Dargah committee, the encroachments had not been removed, prompting the civic body to deploy bulldozers and cutting machines. A heavy police presence ensured smooth execution of the operation.
The encroachments, which included boundary walls and sheds built over the years, were demolished while leaving the Dargah itself untouched. Mohammad Gufran of the Dargah committee confirmed that the Dargah, which is nearly 150 years old, attracts devotees from all communities. “The Municipal Corporation sent notices on January 16 and 29, to which we responded. They demolished all unauthorized constructions except the Dargah and installed a wire fence. We will now remove the remaining encroachments ourselves,” he said.
During the clearance operation, approximately a dozen trees outside the Dargah premises were also cut. CSP Rahul Deshmukh stated that over 50 police personnel, including TI officials from three local police stations, were deployed to maintain order. No resistance was reported during the operation.
The Dargah committee expressed concern about the upcoming Ramadan, noting that the removal of sheds might cause temporary inconvenience for devotees performing prayers.
