Udaipur: In a shocking incident from Chauhanwas village near Pratapnagar police station in Udaipur, Rajasthan, a father has declared his daughter “socially dead” after she eloped with her lover just two months after her marriage. The father not only published a mourning notice but also held a funeral feast (Mrityubhoj) for his living daughter, following Hindu death rituals. Furthermore, he announced that she would be disinherited and all familial ties with her were permanently severed.
Elopement After Traditional Marriage
The young woman had been married just two months ago in a traditional ceremony to a man from the same community. Initially, everything seemed normal, but she soon left her husband and in-laws to run away with her lover, cutting off all contact with both her marital and parental families. Her family attempted multiple times to persuade her to return, but she refused.
A similar case had occurred last month in Bhilwara, where a father also held a funeral for his living daughter after she eloped.
Police Tried to Intervene
The father said that on January 23, his daughter left her in-laws’ home with her lover. The family sought police assistance and managed to reach the daughter on January 28. Despite two conversations over the next two days, she refused to comply with her family’s wishes, stating firmly that she wanted to live her life independently with her chosen partner.
Father’s Heartbreak and Social Declaration
Devastated by his daughter’s insistence, the father performed all traditional death rituals according to Hindu customs, published a mourning notice on social media, and organized a funeral feast. He also declared that she would be excluded from his will and all future family relationships permanently terminated.
