In a significant development in the Noida BTech student suicide case, police have arrested two hostel wardens following allegations of physical assault and harassment by the hostel management. The incident has sparked widespread outrage and protests in the area.
The deceased student, Udit Soni, a native of Mauranipur in Jhansi district, was pursuing a BTech degree at Galgotias University and was residing at EZ Hostel in Knowledge Park, Noida. According to the complaint filed by his father, Vijay Soni, Udit was allegedly assaulted by hostel staff on Friday night.
As per the allegations, Udit returned to the hostel around 10:00 PM along with two of his friends. The hostel management accused them of late entry and consuming alcohol, imposed a fine of ₹10,000, and allegedly subjected Udit to brutal beating using belts and pipes.
Deeply distressed by the incident, Udit reportedly jumped from the fourth-floor balcony of the hostel at around 11:30 PM, resulting in his death. The police rushed to the spot after receiving information and sent the body for post-mortem examination.
Based on the father’s complaint, a case has been registered against 11 individuals, including the hostel owner, manager, and wardens. Following investigation, the police arrested two wardens — Satyanarayan Pandey and Dharam Singh Sikarwar — from the hostel premises. Authorities stated that efforts are underway to locate and arrest the remaining accused.
The tragic incident has triggered public anger, with locals and students organizing candlelight marches demanding strict action against those responsible. Meanwhile, the police have also registered a separate case against students involved in vandalism at the hostel after the incident.
Police officials confirmed that investigations in both matters are ongoing and assured swift and fair action.
