Two Deaths by Suicide Shock Karnataka’s Davanagere After Woman Elopes With Lover

Bengaluru / Davanagere:
A tragic chain of events unfolded in Karnataka’s Davanagere district, where a newly married man allegedly died by suicide after his wife eloped with her lover. Deeply distressed by the incident, the man who had arranged the marriage also took his own life, police officials said on Wednesday.

According to the police, the first victim, Harish (30), a resident of Gummanur village, had married Saraswathi nearly three months ago. The marriage was arranged by Rudresh (36), a resident of Anagondu and a relative of the woman.

Investigators said that Saraswathi left her matrimonial home on the pretext of visiting a temple but later fled with her alleged lover, Kumar. When Harish came to know about the incident, he reportedly wrote a suicide note and ended his life.

In the suicide note, Harish allegedly mentioned the relationship between Saraswathi and Kumar and claimed that he was being threatened with false criminal cases. He also held two of Saraswathi’s relatives — Ganesh and Anjinamma — responsible for his death.

Following Harish’s death, Rudresh, who had played a key role in arranging the marriage, reportedly fell into severe mental distress and later died by suicide.

Police officials stated that marital discord had begun soon after the wedding. Saraswathi had earlier lodged a complaint accusing Harish and his family members of harassment. During the investigation, it emerged that she was allegedly in a relationship with Kumar even before her marriage.

The Davanagere Rural Police have registered a case and are conducting a detailed investigation. The woman has been arrested on charges of abetment to suicide, and further legal proceedings are underway.
