Jabalpur (MP): The police have solved a high-profile ₹19 lakh robbery case in the Vijay Nagar Agricultural Produce Market of Jabalpur. Both accused, two brothers, have been arrested. During interrogation, the accused revealed that the robbery was driven by financial hardships, including medical expenses for their father and grandmother, as well as the upcoming wedding of their sister. Police recovered ₹14.71 lakh in cash along with items used in the crime.
Details of the Robbery
The incident took place in the Vijay Nagar police station area at the agricultural market. The victim, Vikas Sahu, had worked as an accountant (munim) for grain trader Satish Kesharwani’s firm, MLG Sales, for the past 12 years.
On the day of the incident, Vikas was returning from the bank after cashing a ₹19 lakh cheque when, at around 3:45 PM near Gate No. 1 of the market, he was attacked from behind with a rod by a masked assailant. He fell to the ground, and the perpetrators escaped on an Activa scooter with the cash.
CCTV Footage Leads Police to Suspects
The entire incident was captured on CCTV cameras in the area. Investigators tracked the suspects to a medical shop where the masks were purchased. The accused were later identified as Mohit alias Rahul Manvani (26) and Rishi Manvani (18), residents of Golden Town Colony, Green City Road, Madhotal. Both were taken into custody and confessed to the crime.
Financial Hardship Motivated the Crime
The brothers revealed that their family had relocated from Singrauli to Jabalpur and started a register manufacturing business. Due to losses, the family fell into debt. In addition, their grandmother and father are chronically ill, and they were also struggling to cover their sister’s wedding expenses and younger brother’s school fees.
Rahul had observed Vikas carrying the cash from the bank and planned the robbery, roping in his younger brother to execute the act. Police recovered ₹14,71,490 in cash from the accused. The remaining amount was reportedly spent on jewelry for the sister’s wedding, bank deposits, and other payments.
