Police action has intensified in connection with the stone-pelting incident at Turkman Gate in Old Delhi, which erupted during an anti-encroachment drive near the Faiz-e-Ilahi Mosque. With the arrest of three more accused, the total number of people taken into custody has now reached 16, officials confirmed on Saturday.

The incident, which raised serious concerns over law and order in a sensitive area of the capital, is being investigated under multiple legal provisions. Authorities have stated that the situation in the locality is currently peaceful and under control, with enhanced security arrangements in place.

Heavy Security, Drone and CCTV Surveillance

According to police officials, large contingents of police and paramilitary forces have been deployed in sensitive pockets of the area. Surveillance is being carried out using drones and CCTV cameras to prevent any further unrest and to identify those involved in the violence.

Additional Commissioner of Police (Central) Nidhin Valsan said that the three latest arrests were made on Friday night. “With these arrests, the total number of accused apprehended in the stone-pelting case has gone up to 16. The investigation is ongoing,” he said.

Social Media Influencers Under Scanner

In a significant development, the police have also identified 10 social media influencers accused of spreading misleading or unverified information related to the incident. One influencer, Aman Rizvi, was reportedly called for questioning but has not appeared so far.

However, Rizvi claimed she has not received any official summons. “The incident happened around 12:30 am on January 6. I was attending a wedding at the time and posted a video around 4 am. I did not ask anyone to gather near the mosque; I only shared information that something had happened in the area,” she said.

Calling herself a social worker, Rizvi added that she does not support violence. “Stone-pelting at police personnel is a crime. If I receive any notice or call from the police, I will fully cooperate,” she said.

Police officials also said another influencer named Salman is likely to be issued a summons as part of the investigation into the spread of provocative content online.

Political Angle Also Being Probed

The investigation has taken a political turn as well. According to police sources, the role of a Samajwadi Party MP is also under scrutiny. A senior officer said notices may be issued after examining the MP’s statements and possible involvement. “All aspects, including political statements and digital evidence, are being carefully analyzed,” the officer said.

Multi-Level Investigation Continues

Police have emphasized that the probe is being conducted on multiple fronts, including digital forensics, identification of misinformation campaigns, and interrogation of suspects linked to the violence. Authorities reiterated that maintaining law and order remains their top priority.

As the investigation continues, officials have warned that strict action will be taken against anyone found involved in violence or in spreading false information, underscoring a zero-tolerance approach to public disorder in the national capital.
