Tulip Season Returns to Delhi: Citizens Can Now Decorate Homes and Gardens

New Delhi: The floral beauty of Delhi is back with the DDA Palash Festival, bringing a burst of colors to the city over the next three weeks. Residents can now enjoy the vibrant display of tulips and other flowers at various locations, and for the first time this season, they can also purchase tulip bulbs to decorate their homes, balconies, and gardens.

Tulip Bulbs Available for Purchase

From 14 to 16 February, citizens can buy tulip bulbs from DDA at prices ranging from ₹75 to ₹300. With mid-February and early March considered ideal for tulip cultivation, horticulture departments across the city have already started planting tulips and other flowers. Tulip bulbs are available in seven to ten different colors.

Where to See the Blooms

Tulip bulbs are already visible along Shanti Path and SP Marg. According to DDA, additional flower shows will be held on 21 and 22 February, along with displays at NDMC areas, Dwarka, and other selected locations.

Growing Tulips in Delhi

Tulips require at least 15 days of temperatures around 5°C for proper germination. The Delhi climate poses challenges for tulip cultivation, sometimes causing delayed or incomplete blooming. Despite these challenges, the festival ensures that citizens can enjoy the seasonal spectacle.

Palash Festival and Tulip Sales

The DDA’s Palash Festival also allows visitors to purchase tulip bulbs. With Delhi’s spring season becoming shorter in recent years, tulip bulb life has decreased, making this festival an ideal opportunity for enthusiasts to grow tulips at home. Bulbs will be available at four main festival locations.

Popular Display Sites

Tulips have been planted in prominent areas including the green belts along Shanti Path in Chanakyapuri, Nehru Park, Lodi Gardens, DDA parks, Central Park in Connaught Place, SP Marg, NDMC Convention Center Lawn, Mandi House, Windsor Place, and several NDMC roundabouts.

Free Entry and Festival Timings

Entry to the Tulip Festival is free. Visitors can enjoy the displays from 10 AM to 6 PM. The festival features tulips in red, yellow, pink, white, purple, and several other colors.

A Growing Tradition

The NDMC Tulip Festival began in 2017 with 17,000 tulip bulbs. This year, a total of 517,500 tulip bulbs will be planted—325,000 in NDMC areas and 192,500 in DDA-managed areas—promising an even more spectacular floral display.
