Trust in D-Mart Shaken as Insect Found in Saras Milk; Young Man’s Quick Thinking Exposes Fraud

Jaipur: Shoppers are advised to exercise caution when purchasing groceries from large retail chains like D-Mart. A shocking incident from Jaipur has raised questions about product safety and quality standards. A local resident discovered an insect inside a sealed packet of Saras Gold milk purchased from D-Mart, exposing a potential lapse in supply chain integrity.

Insect Discovered in Packaged Milk

On the evening of 26 December, Pravesh Pathak, a resident of Shriram Colony, Pratap Nagar, visited D-Mart in Pratap Nagar to buy daily essentials, including milk and curd. After completing his shopping and billing, Pathak noticed a worm inside the sealed Saras Gold milk packet. He showed it to his companions and recorded a video of the packet and the insect before leaving the store.

Exposing the Milk Supply Loophole

Pravesh and his friends then purchased a strainer and a container from the same D-Mart outlet. On camera, they poured the milk through the strainer, confirming the presence of the insect. The group questioned whether D-Mart procures Saras products directly from Jaipur Dairy or through private suppliers, highlighting the risk of counterfeit products entering major retail outlets.

Previous Incidents at D-Mart Raise Concerns

This is not the first time quality issues have surfaced at D-Mart. Last year, Jaipur’s Food Safety Department raided two prominent stores—D-Mart and Ipermart—seizing 2,700 liters of adulterated ghee from D-Mart and 46,000 liters of spurious oil from Ipermart. The seized ghee was labeled as Saras brand but was found to be counterfeit. Investigations revealed that D-Mart had procured the adulterated ghee from Khandelwal & Company, located in Vishwakarma Industrial Area, Kukar Kheda, which is not an authorized Saras distributor. Authentic Saras products have unique codes on each container, while the seized items had duplicate codes, confirming their inauthenticity.

Consumers Urged to Verify Authenticity

Authorities and consumers alike have been reminded to check for authorized distributors and unique product codes when purchasing branded dairy products. Incidents like this underscore the need for vigilance, even when shopping at reputed retail chains.
