Satna, MP: A historic medical achievement has been recorded at Satna District Hospital, Madhya Pradesh, as three newborn triplets successfully fought for their lives for 39 days in the Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) and have now returned home healthy.
Ranjana Patel, a 28-year-old resident of Budekhan village in the Maihar region, gave birth to three children on 21 November. The babies, weighing 1.4 kg, 1.6 kg, and 1.0 kg respectively, were extremely underweight and fragile at birth, making survival a serious challenge.
The newborns were immediately admitted to the SNCU, where a dedicated team of doctors and nurses monitored them round the clock. After 1 month and 9 days of intensive care, all three babies gained sufficient weight and were discharged on 30 December, marking a rare success in neonatal care.
Dr. Sudhanshu Garg, in-charge of the SNCU, said, “Cases like these are extremely challenging. Typically, in low-weight triplets, one or two babies may not survive. But our team persevered, and through continuous monitoring, specialized treatment, and the tireless efforts of our nursing staff, we were able to save all three.”
The joyful moment of discharge brought immense happiness to Ranjana Patel and her family, who expressed heartfelt gratitude to the hospital staff. The return of the triplets has also brought celebration to Budekhan village, marking a historic first for the Satna District Hospital.
