Tribal Leader Beaten, Mob Vandalizes Government Liquor Store in Khargone

Khargone (MP): Tensions escalated in Khargone district after a tribal leader was assaulted, and the incident was captured on video. Following the circulation of the video, an angry mob vandalized a government liquor store, causing significant damage. Police have registered a case and taken three individuals into custody.

Assault on Tribal Leader

The incident occurred in Chainpur police station area, involving tribal leader Magan Yadav and another individual, Jagdish. According to SDOP Rakesh Arya, the confrontation arose over the alleged illegal transportation of liquor. During the altercation, Magan Yadav was physically assaulted. The assault was recorded and went viral on social media, sparking public outrage.

Mob Attack on Liquor Store

In retaliation, a mob of around 20 people attacked the government composite liquor store at Jhiraniya on Thursday night. The vandals caused damage estimated at approximately ₹5 lakh worth of liquor. Authorities are in the process of identifying those involved in the destruction.

Police Action and Custody

Following Magan Yadav’s complaint, police registered a case against several individuals, including Sonu, Satya, and Akash. All three have been taken into custody, and preventive measures have been imposed on them while the investigation continues.

Damage Assessment and Investigation

SDO Sajendra Mori of the Excise Department inspected the liquor store and prepared a damage report, which will be forwarded to the District Collector and Commissioner. Simultaneously, a formal investigation into the vandalism has been launched.

Police officials confirmed that tribal organizations visited the Jhiraniya police station to follow up on the case and were assured that proper legal action would be taken. SP Ravindra Verma added that the investigation into the vandalism is ongoing and appropriate legal proceedings will follow.
