Mau / Barabanki: A devastating road accident on the Purvanchal Expressway in Barabanki has left an entire family shattered, claiming the lives of five members in a single tragic incident. The news has sent shockwaves through their hometown of Khanpur Khurd in Mau, where not a single hearth remained lit as grief enveloped the village.
According to reports, Gulista (49), daughter of Abdul Gaffar from Khanpur Khurd, was traveling with her daughters Sameerin (22), Ilma (12), Ziyan (10), and her brother Zishan (25) in a WagonR car. They had set out on Wednesday morning to visit Gulista’s sister Hijba in Lucknow. Her husband Javed Ashraf, a sub-inspector at Ahiraula Police Station in Azamgarh, received the heart-wrenching news soon after the accident.
The tragedy occurred near Haidergarh town in Barabanki when the family stopped briefly to give water to the children. At that moment, a Toyota Brezza traveling from Gorakhpur to Delhi collided with their WagonR. The impact was so severe that the WagonR’s CNG tank exploded, engulfing the vehicle in flames. Zishan, who was seated in the front, managed to jump out but sustained serious injuries, while the other five passengers perished on the spot.
Emergency responders rushed the occupants of the Brezza—Trupti Mishra, Anjani Mishra, Deepti Mishra, Pragati Mishra, and Deepanshu Mishra—to Haidergarh CHC, where they are receiving treatment for serious injuries.
The news of the accident plunged the family’s native village, Khanpur Khurd, into mourning. Neighbors described the deceased family as close-knit and sociable, always engaging warmly with the community. Usman Ghani Khan, Gulista’s uncle, expressed his disbelief: “We never imagined such a tragedy could happen.”
The horrifying accident has left the village in silence and grief, with homes mourning the sudden loss of five loved ones from a single family.
