Kannauj (UP): A heartbreaking incident occurred in Sakri Khurd village under the Manimau police station area on Thursday, where two brothers lost their lives after consuming a beverage from a glass that had previously contained pesticide. One brother died instantly in the field, while the other succumbed en route to the hospital, leaving their father devastated at the sight of both sons dead.
Incident Details
The victims, 21-year-old Satyam and 19-year-old Mayank, sons of Ravish Kumar Srivastava, were assisting their father in spraying pesticides on a potato crop near Lilapur village, about 2 km from their home. Around 10 AM, the trio applied the chemical to protect the crop from blight and carried out irrigation afterward.
By evening around 5 PM, Satyam and Mayank had sent their father home and stayed behind in the field. Planning to have a drink, they accidentally used an empty disposable glass previously used for pesticide, as they had forgotten to bring a clean one. Soon after consuming the liquid, both brothers began showing severe symptoms of poisoning.
Deaths on the Spot and En Route
While walking toward home, Mayank collapsed about 200 meters from the field and died on the spot. Satyam called their father for help but tragically passed away on the way to Kanpur hospital, despite being initially taken to the district hospital in Kannauj.
Family and Police Statement
Their elder brother, Shivam, stated that the lethal effect of the pesticide residue in the glass was the cause of their deaths. Sadar Kotwali in-charge Jitendra Pratap Singh confirmed that both bodies have been sent for post-mortem. Preliminary investigations indicate that the ingestion of the beverage from the pesticide-contaminated glass led to the fatalities. A formal inquiry into the incident is underway.
