Kanpur: A shocking incident has come to light from Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, where a young man lost his life after being hit by a train while walking on the railway tracks with his girlfriend. The young woman sustained minor injuries and managed to return home on her own.
The tragic incident occurred in the Govind Nagar police station area, on the Kanpur-Jhansi railway track. The victim’s body was found in a severely mutilated state. Upon receiving information from locals, the police reached the spot and took the body into custody, sending it for post-mortem. From the site, the police recovered two mobile phones, an earbud, and sandals, which were used to identify the deceased.
The deceased was identified as 22-year-old Suraj Pandey, a resident of Kashipur Mallapur in Sitapur. He had been working at a namkeen factory in Dada Nagar for the past five years. Suraj’s wife, Krishnavati, and young daughter, Roshan, survive him.
The police investigation revealed that Suraj and his girlfriend, who is from Kanpur Dehat, were heading towards Dabouli to buy clothes. To avoid being seen by anyone, they chose the railway track route. Unfortunately, while walking, Suraj was struck by a passing train, leading to his death. The girlfriend, in a state of panic, left the scene and returned home without informing anyone about the incident.
Suraj had not gone to work on Sunday due to the factory being closed. His supervisor tried calling him the next day after he failed to show up for work, leading to the police being notified. The girlfriend explained to the police that they had met near Dabouli Underpass on Sunday evening, and after walking along the railway tracks, the tragic accident occurred.
However, Suraj’s family members, including his cousin and maternal relatives, have raised suspicions and accused the girlfriend of murder, as they claim she did not inform anyone about the incident.
The police, under the leadership of Govind Nagar Police Station Officer Rakesh Kumar Singh, are currently investigating the case. Further action will be taken based on the post-mortem report and the official complaint.
